About

We are two sisters creating miniature worlds from our backyard in Mississauga. We grew up collecting and creating from whatever we could find. But moving around in different cities and countries meant that most of our creations ended up left behind and buried in basements…

…so here’s how we began this project.

Nimra works as a Developmental Therapist and Visual Artist based in Mississauga. She enjoys making things by hand, most recently: earrings, soap, and paper. She holds a BA in Psychology and World Religions from McGill University, and currently works with children with autism. Nimra has led a number of creative projects, including an Interactive Mural Project with adults with disabilities in Mississauga (2018), and the Yellow Door Hive – a creative space for youth in Montreal (2016-17). She has recently collaborated as a visual artist for an experimental film with a team of Peruvian artists in the Ucayali region of Peru (2018). She is excited to contribute her experience and interest in empowerment, visual art, and storytelling for the Bandukwala sister’s next creative venture, Reth aur Reghistan.

Manahil paints and writes, and is based in Ottawa. She is currently completing her BA in English and Women’s and Gender Studies from Carleton University. She is the author of two poetry chapbooks, Paper Doll (Anstruther Press, 2019) and Pipe Rose (battleaxe press, 2018). Her work has appeared in The PuritanCoven EditionsBywords.ca, among others. She is also an editor for In/Words Magazine and Press and serves on the editorial board of Canthius. She appreciates bright colour and works with a loose, unrestrained hand. You can follow:
